Claire McCaskill is back to her favorite refrain, citing “dark money” as the reason she’s voting no on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
But, as has been well documented, McCaskill doesn’t really oppose dark money, only any spending that is against her. McCaskill is actually a big fan of dark money groups who are spending on her behalf, standing silently by as a former Enron executive and Chuck Schumer blanket the airwaves with TV ads supporting her. So whenever McCaskill runs around screaming “dark money,” folks should immediately get suspicious of her real motives.
“Claire McCaskill can go on complaining about dark money all she wants, but that won’t change the fact that she’s one of the biggest recipients of dark money spending in the country,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “If McCaskill really feels so strongly about dark money, does she think the dark money spending on her behalf disqualifies her from being reelected to the Senate?”
