Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton remains remarkably unpopular in the deep red states Senate Democrats are defending this November. You’d think they’d do everything in their power to distance themselves from her, right? Luckily for Republicans, DSCC Chair Chris Van Hollen disagrees!
Van Hollen told reporters this morning that Senate Democrats would welcome support from Clinton in the runup to the election. This development is sure to give vulnerable Dems like Joe Manchin, Claire McCaskill, Heidi Heitkamp, Jon Tester and Joe Donnelly nightmares as they attempt to run from their record of supporting the deeply unpopular Clinton and her failed policies.
So, who will be the first Dem to go along with Van Hollen and the DSCC and bring Hillary to their state to campaign? A great question for folks covering the Hill today.
“Hillary Clinton’s return to the campaign trail will remind voters that red state Democrats stuck by her while she was bashing their constituents as deplorables, and that they continue to support the same failed policies she pushed in her doomed presidential run,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “For those curious – the NRSC also welcomes Hillary Clinton to the campaign trail in 2018.”
