Phil Bredesen is following Chuck Schumer’s playbook on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Schumer has pleaded with Democrats to “Keep your powder dry. Don’t commit. Stay as neutral as you can, as long as you can,” and Bredesen is doing just that saying he’s “not quite ready to say how he would vote on Supreme Court nomination.”
Bredesen’s refusal to take a position on the eminently qualified jurist comes despite his promise to make a decision after the hearings conclude. Well, the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing ended last week, so now it’s time for Bredesen to put his money where his mouth is. Tennesseans need to know where he stands.
“Tennessee voters don’t want someone who has to wait for Chuck Schumer’s permission before making a decision, which is exactly what Phil Bredesen’s doing,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Unlike Bredesen, Marsha Blackburn made it clear from Day One that she supports the will of a majority of Tennesseans who want to see Judge Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court.”
