Washington, D.C. – Article I, Section 4, Clause 1:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

– U.S. Constitution.

Not anymore if the Democrats’ new legislation to replace S.1, the “Corrupt Politicians Act,” becomes law. New mandatory rules on voting will be put into place whether or not state legislatures approve them.

Yesterday, we mentioned that the bill will include rules limiting the requirements of showing valid identification at polling places. This new law will make changes to early voting, mail-in balloting, and public financing of campaigns. Perhaps even most concerning is the federalization of re-districting, often run by independent state commissions at the state level.

No state leader has been more outspoken about the wholesale federalization of voting laws than Democrat New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner who has held the job for 40 years. Gardner not only said it would “trample New Hampshire’s state constitution” but also warned that it would jeopardize his state’s first-in-the-nation primary status. Unfortunately, his state’s junior senator, Maggie Hassan, was a co-sponsor of the “Corrupt Politicians Act” and undoubtedly supports this new iteration.
