Washington, D.C – The “Failing Up” champion of the year, Jaime Harrison, is off to an electric start as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Yesterday, it was announced that employees of the DNC will unionize, joining the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500. The SEIU, of course, is a major donor to the Democratic Party and Democrat candidates. We have no doubt they will be happy with the additional dues. A classic “you scratch our back, we’ll scratch yours” situation.
So far, the staff of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) has refused to follow suit. Unlike their DNC counterparts, DSCC staff has rejected the idea that a big union and major donor can best protect their rights. We’ll see if someone on the DSCC finance team seeks to change that stance and makes an introduction with senior leadership of the SEIU.
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “Jaime Harrison has brought his ‘waste money, get blown out’ election mentality to the DNC. This time, the money he’s wasting isn’t liberals from California but his own employees who will be anteing up to the union bosses who help fund Democrats across the country. So far, our friends at the DSCC have refused to follow their lead. We’ll see how long that lasts.”
