Washington, D.C. – It is back to school time for teachers and students. But if Senate Democrats – and their bosses at the teachers unions – had it their way, schools would remain closed for in-person learning for yet another year.

For Senate Democrats like Mark Kelly, Catherine Cortez Masto, Maggie Hassan, Raphael Warnock, and Michael Bennet raking in campaign cash from the teachers unions is more important than the well-being of American children. So, it is unsurprising that after the head of the teachers union back peddled on reopening schools to in-person learning this fall, Senate Democrats unanimously followed suit by rejecting Republican-led legislation that would have ensured schools were open for in-person learning this school year.

According to NRSC polling from earlier this year, a clear majority of parents were calling for schools to reopen and to get kids back to in-person learning, including 62% of Democrats.

Senate Democrats’ rejection of in-person learning this school year might help grow their campaign coffers, but voters won’t forget which party caved to the teachers unions and refused to support the well-being of American students.
