Tina Smith took to the airwaves this morning to deliver a rambling defense of her reckless decision to shut down the government and take health insurance away from 8.9 million children.

If anyone needed evidence of how disingenuous Smith is being about her intent to shut down the government, look no further than her comments during the CNN interview. Smith initially stated, “these short-term budget fixes don’t really fix anything,” then moments later she advocated for the 4-5 day extension Shutdown Chuck Schumer is pushing. This left the CNN anchor very puzzled by her answer. While Smith tries to work out her loony logic for shutting down the government, Minnesota children, seniors, employees and businesses are being held hostage.

“Voters won’t forget that one of Tina Smith’s first major decisions as a U.S. Senator was to support a government shutdown,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Smith’s showing her loyalty lies with Shutdown Chuck Schumer, and not with the hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans who will be hurt by a shutdown.”
