With Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen set to visit the US-Mexico border today in Arizona, what better time than now to look at Kyrsten Sinema’s abysmal record on securing the nation’s borders.  Sinema sure brags about her “laser-focus” on the issues important to Arizonans, but when it comes to keeping our border safe and secure, she’s suspiciously quiet and for good reason.

Here are some of Sinema’s worst moments:

  • Sinema has voted against providing better security at the ports of entry where Sec. Nielsen will be visiting today, and where studies show the vast majority of drugs, including heroin, enter the United States.
  • Yesterday, Sinema walked out of a hearing on border security and stopping the flow of dangerous opioids into America, drawing widespread criticism in the Arizona press.
  • Last year, Sinema voted to continue providing federal funding to sanctuary cities which refuse to comply with federal immigration enforcement.
  • Sinema called building a border wall “ineffective” in an interview with ABC 15.
  • In 2017, Kyrsten Sinema voted against providing funding for border fencing and wall construction, and against providing funding to help secure our borders.

So much for tough leadership…

“Arizonans have grown tired of do-nothing politicians like Kyrsten Sinema,” said NRSC Spokesman Calvin Moore. “Voters expect their leaders to tackle our broken immigration system with bold leadership and new ideas, but all Sinema offers are tired excuses. Arizonans will hold Sinema accountable this November for refusing to get serious about securing our borders and stopping the flow of dangerous drugs into our country.”
