The reviews are in for Kamala Harris’ first trip abroad to address the “root cause” of the border crisis Biden created and they are brutal. Journalists, pundits, Biden allies, and even White House staffers were baffled by how bad Biden’s Radical Border Crisis Czar handled simple questions about the border crisis.

Here’s what they are saying:

Amie Parnes – The Hill:

Harris’s comments about visiting the border during the trip left almost everyone shaking their heads inside and outside the White House.

“It wasn’t great,” said one longtime Biden ally. “A little cringeworthy too. I don’t know how they weren’t preparing for these questions.”

Another ally was blunt: “It was terrible. I don’t know how else to say it.”

Maeve Reston – CNN:

The vice president has never been particularly adept when confronted with questions that she doesn’t like or doesn’t want to answer — as she demonstrated during 2020 primaries, when she repeatedly dodged and fumbled questions about her health care plan. In this case, she deflected a straightforward question from NBC’s Lester Holt about why she hasn’t visited the border by laughing it off and stating that she also hasn’t been to Europe, adding that she didn’t understand the point that Holt was making — even though everyone else did.

It was a clumsy answer that came off as tone-deaf given that the situation at the US-Mexico border is one of the most troubling issues facing the administration. Finding a solution for stemming migration from Central America is a problem that has eluded multiple administrations for decades, but even some White House officials — who want her to succeed in this difficult endeavor — were perplexed.

Politico Playbook:

They also knew it was bound to come up in media interviews, including the one where NBC’s LESTER HOLT pressed her about going to the border. A clearly frustrated Harris eventually said, “I, and I haven’t been to Europe. And I mean, I don’t understand the point that you’re making. I’m not discounting the importance of the border.”

Two former Harris advisers said that exchange with Holt fit a pattern. One of the former aides from her Senate office put it like this: “It sometimes takes her a while to land on the right message, and sometimes she can be a little undisciplined in her message. But she eventually gets there.”

John Harwood – CNN:

“It’s no surprise that the White House was not thrilled by that answer, a little bit confused as to why she handled it that way. The obvious discomfort with Lester’s question. The nervous laughter there. It’s hard to understand because this is a question that the administration has been dealing with for months.” (WATCH)

It’s clear that Biden’s Radical Border Crisis Czar is not up to the task of fixing the crisis she helped create. Biden’s border crisis may be a joke to the Biden Administration, but it’s not a joke to the children in border towns whose lives are endangered by human smugglers. Or the great men and women of U.S. Border Patrol who risk their lives to rescue illegal immigrants stranded in remote areas of the border.

Kamala Harris says she was in Central America to address the “root cause” of Biden’s border crisis. But if she really wants to address the root cause, she should start at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
