Add another lie to the long list Heidi Heitkamp has told when trying to defend her vote against the Republican tax cuts.
Heitkamp has dishonestly said the GOP tax cuts will hurt North Dakota farmers, and unsurprisingly, agriculture experts are correcting the record. Yesterday, Patricia Wolff, American Farm Bureau senior director of congressional relations, explained that “Farmers and ranchers will benefit from lower tax rates and continue to be able to use some of the tax planning tools that have existed in the past and help them get their taxes down.” These comments completely contradict Heitkamp’s dishonest message that middle-class farmers “will lose out under the bill.”
But this isn’t the first time Heitkamp has been dishonest about the tax bill. Heitkamp released misleading statistics in December to criticize the legislation, and folks shouldn’t forget she claimed the bill would hurt North Dakotans. Meanwhile, over 400 companies have announced bonuses and wage increases, and people are already seeing bigger paychecks.
“As the Republican tax cuts take effect, North Dakotans are seeing the desperate and dishonest attacks Heidi Heitkamp used to try and stop the legislation from being enacted,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “Not only do voters know they can’t trust Heidi Heitkamp to support their interests, but now they can’t trust a word she says.”
