She couldn’t even name a single element of the deal she didn’t like. Now, as it becomes clear that the Obama administration has repeatedly capitulated to Iran, a state sponsor of terror, Cortez Masto has gone the silent route once again.

Today, the Wall Street Journal reported that the $400 million ransom payment sent to Iran in exchange for hostages was actually opposed by top officials at the Justice Department. But Nevada’s former top law enforcement official refuses to say a word about the payment or the administration’s eagerness to appease the Iranian government:

  • “Senior Justice Department officials objected to sending a plane loaded with cash to Tehran at the same time that Iran released four imprisoned Americans, but their objections were overruled by the State Department, according to people familiar with the discussions…The timing and manner of the payment raised alarms at the Justice Department, according to those familiar with the discussions.” (Devlin Barrett, “Justice Department Officials Raised Objections On U.S. Cash Payment To Iran,” Wall Street Journal, 8/3/16)

For Cortez Masto, dodging the tough issues and public attention seems to be the foundation of her campaign. Yesterday, the Lahontan Valley News ripped Cortez Masto in an editorial for intentionally misleading the press about the dates and times of her campaign events so reporters couldn’t cover them.

Her campaign handlers didn’t want the press — and the public — to know she was stopping in communities such as Ely, Elko, Winnemucca and Fallon. It was only by a fluke that the Elko and Lovelock newspapers, for example, learned of her whirlwind stop…

The Elko Daily Free Press learned of her stop — only by accident — when a member of the local Democratic Party notified the newspaper without the blessing of her staff. The Daily Free Press then initiated emails with the Cortez-Masto camp to obtain more details. According to the newspaper’s editor, the information provided to him had the wrong day so the Daily Free Press had to hunt down the correct information…

If Catherine Cortez Masto won’t say a word about a disastrous nuclear agreement that only makes America less safe, and she won’t make herself available to voters to talk about the tough issues, then she has disqualified herself from serving as Nevada’s next Senator.
