Three-time Tampa Bay Times ‘loser of the week’ Patrick Murphy apparently needed another Cocktail party to cure the blues that come along with heading a campaign stuck in a flaming tailspin.
Over the July 4th weekend, Privileged Patrick was spotted in Nantucket on ‘Cocktails,’ the massive family yacht that burns $100,000 worth of fuel at a time. At the same time, Murphy’s Treasure Coast congressional district was declared to be in a state of emergency thanks to a toxic algae crisis.
Privileged was spotted again this weekend playing Gilligan to Skipper Tom Murphy:
Just weeks after taking heat for spending Fourth of July weekend in Nantucket on his father’s yacht, Florida’s Democratic Senate hopeful Patrick Murphy jetted off for a fundraiser in a Rhode Island town where the 97-foot luxury ship is docked.
Murphy was in Newport, Rhode Island, on Saturday for a fundraiser hosted by the 147th richest family in the United States. Cocktails, a custom yacht owned by Murphy’s father that can comfortably sleep eleven in its five bedrooms, was also in town.
Murphy is skipping the Democrats’ national convention this week, telling Politico it’s just too important to be in Florida playing the role of Alan Grayson’s punching bag:
- “Murphy’s campaign cited the congressman’s end-of-August primary when saying that he wouldn’t make it to the DNC.” (Elena Schneider, “Which Senate Democrats Are Skipping The DNC,” Politico, 7/25/16)
The life of Privileged Patrick is a comfortable one indeed. State of emergency? Businesses devastated? Primary campaign? National convention? They all take a back seat to living the high life on daddy’s yacht.
