Catherine Cortez Masto has gone all-in for Hillary Clinton, so much so that she endorsed Clinton just before Nevada’s presidential caucuses and later declared war on Democrat voters who supported Bernie Sanders.
And Cortez Masto obviously learned a thing or two about partisanship from Harry Reid, because Nevada’s former attorney general hasn’t said a word about the blatant conflict of interest committed this week when Attorney General Loretta Lynch held a private meeting with Bill Clinton while his wife is under federal investigation.
Cortez Masto’s fellow Democrats have spoken out against Lynch and Clinton’s cozy relationship even as the Attorney General is charged with overseeing the federal government’s investigation into Hillary Clinton.
Some Democrats are struggling to stomach the optics of the attorney general’s meeting with the former president while his wife is under federal investigation…‘I do agree with you that it doesn’t send the right signal,’ Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) said Thursday in response to a question about the meeting from CNN ‘New Day’ host Alisyn Camerota… David Axelrod, a former top aide to President Barack Obama, tweeted that he took Lynch and the former president ‘at their word’ that the Justice Department’s probe into Hillary Clinton’s email server did not come up, ‘but foolish to create such optics.’
A breaking report indicates the meeting took place just days before the FBI is scheduled to meet with Hillary Clinton as part of the government’s investigation.
- “Former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to meet Saturday with the FBI, a source close to the investigation into her private email server tells The Daily Caller…The bureau’s interview with the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is believed to be the final step in its investigation into the potential mishandling of classified information on Clinton’s private email server.” (Chuck Ross, “Hillary Clinton Scheduled To Meet With FBI On Saturday,” Daily Caller, 7/1/16)
Cortez Masto loves to brag about her time as Nevada’s top law enforcement officer. But the former state attorney general is conspicuously silent as Lynch and the Clintons take heat even from members of her own party. So what does Cortez Masto think about the obvious conflict of interest? Or would she rather let her political ally off the hook?
