“This result is nothing short of embarrassing for Patty Judge and the establishment Democrats who conceived, funded, and promoted her candidacy,” said NRSC Executive Director Ward Baker. “After holding statewide elected office for more than a decade, Judge should have breezed through her primary. Instead, she was pushed to the limit by an unknown, underfunded opponent because she utterly failed to connect with Iowa voters on issues that matter to them. It’s clear that Patty Judge was completely unprepared for this campaign and still unable to escape Chet Culver’s legacy of failure.
“While Judge was able to stumble across the finish line in a primary filled with unknown challengers, she will have no such luck against Chuck Grassley. Senator Grassley has repeatedly earned bipartisan support from Iowa voters because he is everything that Patty Judge is not: a hard-working leader who is committed to traveling to every county in order to hear directly from Iowans and take their concerns to Washington. No one works harder than Chuck Grassley, and he will once again be an important part of our Republican Majority when he wins in November.”
