Barack Obama will be in Indiana today spinning his failed legacy, and no one will be happier to welcome him than Baron Hill, a loyal partisan Democrat who was already defeated at the polls once thanks to his support for the disastrous Obama agenda.

Hill has been a vocal Obama supporter from the jump, endorsing him over Hillary Clinton in 2008. And when it came time to line up to support Obama’s agenda in Congress, Baron Hill was there every single time. From Obamacare to cap-and-trade, Hill happily abandoned Hoosier families and put Washington first.

Hill paid a steep price, getting wiped out by double digits against Todd Young, but apparently didn’t learn anything from the experience. No matter – when Hill faces off against Young again on the ballot this November, he can expect another wipeout. Same record, same result.

Hoosier voters won’t be fooled by an Obama Democrat who wouldn’t bother to put Indiana first. Sorry, Baron. They’re just not that into you.

In 2008, Hill Endorsed Barack Obama Over Hillary Clinton

  • In April 2008, Hill Endorsed Barack Obama For President. “Rep. Baron Hill (D-Ind.) endorsed Barack Obama’s presidential campaign today – a somewhat surprising move for the one Indiana Democrat facing a highly competitive re-election campaign. ‘I am proud of Senator Obama’s call for change in Washington – change I have been advocating since I first sought public office,’ Hill said in a statement. ‘I am truly hopeful that his campaign and election will help unify our nation and ultimately change our politics.’” (Josh Kraushaar, “Baron Hill endorses Obama,” Politico, 4/30/08)

  • Hill Was An Obama Superdelegate. “With endorsements coming in from California, Iowa and Indiana, Sen. Barack Obama pulled even with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday in the race for support on Capitol Hill. Obama received the backing of Rep. Baron Hill, a conservative Democrat from southern Indiana, Rep. Bruce Braley, an Iowa freshman, and Rep. Lois Capps, who has held her liberal California seat for six terms and whose son-in-law works for the Obama campaign. New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman’s endorsement of Obama on Monday gave him the lead among Democrats in the Senate, and the House nods put Obama even for all of Congress. Obama trails Clinton by just 21 superdelegates, 243-264, cutting her lead in half in less than two months.” (“Obama Even In Superdelegates From Congress,” St. Petersburg Times, 5/1/08)

In 2010, Hill Voted For ObamaCare And Said He Was “Proud” Of His Vote

  • In March 2010, Hill Voted For Final Passage Of The Affordable Care Act. “Passage of the bill that would make changes to a health care overhaul measure (HR 3590), revise student loans procedures and include revenue-raising provisions. It would increase federal subsidies to help low- and moderate-income families purchase coverage through health insurance exchanges established by the overhaul measure, phase out the coverage gap for Medicare prescription drug enrollees and adjust the federal matching funds for Medicaid. It would change penalties on employers that do not offer health benefits. It would freeze Medicare Advantage payments in 2011 and then re-formulate payments according to local costs. The federal government would cover 100 percent of the cost of coverage to newly eligible Medicaid recipients in 2014-16. It would delay until 2018 the effective date of a tax on high-cost health plans and adjust the dollar amounts used to determine who would be affected by the tax. It would repeal a tax credit for a paper-processing byproduct called ‘black liquor.’ It also would make the federal government the sole originator of federal student loans and direct the savings generated to education programs, including Pell grants. The bill would shift all new federal student lending to the Direct Loan Program beginning July 1, 2010. It would increase the maximum annual Pell Grant scholarship to $5,975 in 2017 and provide $2.6 billion for minority-serving institutions.” (H.R. 4872 CQ Vote #167, Passed 220-211: D 220-33; R 0-178, 3/21/10, Hill Voted Yay)

  • In A 2010 Debate, Hill Said That He Is “Proud” Of His Vote For The Affordable Care Act. Hill: “I proudly stand before you to say, I am glad I voted for the bill, it is a good bill.” (CSPAN, Indiana 9th House District Debate, Bloomington, IN, 10/18/2010)

Hill Supported Obama’s Cap-And-Trade Legislation

  • Hill Was Forced To Defend His Vote For Cap-And-Trade During His Losing 2010 Election Effort. “Rep. Baron Hill (D-Ind.) — a conservative Blue Dog Democrat and supporter of last year’s House cap-and-trade bill — has lost his reelection fight to Republican attorney Todd Young. Hill had to defend several votes he took this Congress — including supporting the cap-and-trade, healthcare reform, stimulus and auto-industry bailout measures.” (“Blue Dog And Cap-And-Trade Backer Baron Hill Loses,” The Hill, 11/3/10)
