And this open hostility is now surfacing inside his handpicked successor’s Senate campaign, with Catherine Cortez Masto clearly doing the bidding of her political godfather by sharply criticizing Sanders supporters.
- “When asked Wednesday during a visit to Washoe County Senior Services whether Sanders should apologize, Cortez Masto, the presumptive Democratic nominee in the U.S. Senate race to replace Sen. Harry Reid, said she would let other people decide…However, three hours later her spokesman Zach Hudson released a statement where Cortez Masto called for an apology.” (Seth Richardson, “Cortez Masto Demands Sanders Apologize For Convention,” Reno Gazette Journal, 5/18/16)
Reid has been savaging Sanders and his supporters for days after the Nevada Democrats’ convention devolved into chaos over delegate allocation
- “Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid sharply criticized Bernie Sanders’ supporters for turning the Nevada Democratic Convention into chaos over the weekend, saying the Vermont senator should not "accept" how his backers behaved…Sanders’ spokesman Michael Briggs pushed back at Reid’s comments, calling on Democrats to harness the energy of his boss’ backers.” (Manu Raju, “Nevada Convention Chaos,” CNN, 5/16/16)
So when the Reno Gazette Journal reports that Cortez Masto’s spokesman “did not respond to a question about why the campaign felt they needed to clarify [her position] unsolicited,” we all know the answer has only two words: Harry Reid.
