Kander was endorsed by the radical left-wing environmental group in large part because of his support for the Obama cap-and-trade plan and the president’s efforts to send gas and electricity prices skyrocketing and cost Missouri nearly 60,000 jobs.
Kander refused to stand with Missourians to protect jobs and keep energy costs affordable when he cast his vote in the state legislature giving the green light to Obama’s radical energy regulations.
- In 2010, Kander Voted Against A Resolution [HCR 46] To Urge Missouri’s Congressional Delegation To Oppose A Democrat-Proposed Cap-And-Trade Bill. Urges the Environmental Protection Agency to rescind its formal endangerment finding on greenhouse gases and urges our congressional delegation to vote against H.R. 2454 known as “Cap and Trade.” (HCR 46, Journal of the House, Overall vote to Adopt HCR 46: 113-41, 5/14/10, Kander Voted No)
The Democrats’ relentless war on coal has already claimed hundreds of Missouri jobs and drove one of the state’s largest companies into bankruptcy. If Kander has his way, Missouri workers and families will only continue to pay the price for his anti-jobs environmental agenda.
- “Weeks after signaling that a heavy debt load and weak coal demand could push it into bankruptcy, Peabody Energy surprised few when it filed for Chapter 11 protection here on Wednesday…As a hub for big coal, the St. Louis region has been at the center of several large coal bankruptcies in recent years. Peabody’s rival and the nation’s second-largest coal mining company, Creve Coeur-based Arch Coal, filed for bankruptcy protection in St. Louis in January.” (Jacob Barker, “Peabody Energy Files For Bankruptcy In Largest Coal Industry Restructuring,” St. Louis Post Dispatch, 4/13/16)
Environmental groups might love Jason Kander’s record, but Missouri families are the ones paying for it.
BACKGROUND
According to the National Association of Manufacturers, the cap-and-trade bill would have cost Missouri up to 58,900 jobs, cut the disposable incomes of Missouri families by up to $1,301/yr., and increased gas prices by up to 24% and electricity prices by up to 64%. (National Association of Manufacturers, Missouri – Economic Impact of HR 2454, 2009)
HCR 46 Urged Missouri Congressional Members To Reject Adoption Of Cap-And-Trade “Whereas, H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, also known as the ‘Waxman-Markey’ and ‘Cap and Trade’, passed by the United States House of Representatives and now pending before the United States Senate, will have a dramatic effect on every American, increase the cost of supplying homes and businesses with electricity, cause job losses, and impose burdensome costs on the poor and families with incomes of less than $10,000 annually for whom energy costs today make up 60% of their average family expenses, and for families with incomes of $10,000 to $25,000 annually, such costs make up 25% of their average family expenses.” (HCR 46, Adopted Bill Text, 5/14/10)
- HCR 46 Called For Missouri Members Of The U.S. Congress To Reject Cap And Trade Legislation. “Be it further resolved that the Missouri General Assembly hereby urges our Missouri Congressional delegation to vote against H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy Act of 2009, and further requests that our elected statewide officials express their respective positionson the passage of H.R. 2454 and send a unified message to our Missouri Congressional delegation.” (HCR 46, Adopted Bill Text, 5/14/10)
