Clinton – who "loves the idea of appointing Obama to the Supreme Court," will be in the Badger State today to advocate for the next closest thing: Barack Obama’s lame-duck attempt to reshape the Court for a generation.
In a sharp departure from then-Senator Joe Biden’s rule of putting off action on a Supreme Court nomination "until after the election campaign is over," Clinton is expected to explain her support for depriving the American people of our voice…without making her own position on Merrick Garland known.
Unlike the "two guys" who were the only ones to show up at a recent ‘do your job’ protest in Wisconsin, Clinton is refusing to reveal her stance on Garland:
- “Hillary’s Supreme Court Two-Step: She chides Senate’s refusal to act on nominee, but won’t say if she’d appoint him herself…The question of whether Clinton would reappoint Garland is deceptively important…Clinton’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment on Wednesday, the morning after she won four states and essentially wrapped up the Democratic nomination.” (Annie Karni, "Hillary’s Supreme Court Two-Step," Politico, 3/16/16)
If Hillary Clinton wishes to emulate the principles of a senator from the 1990s, she should have chosen the Biden Rule instead of the Russ Feingold standard of hypocrisy.
FLASHBACK:
- Senators Russ Feingold And Hillary Clinton Supported A Filibuster Against George W. Bush Appointee Samuel Alito. "Among the 24 Democrats who supported the filibuster were five senators being mentioned as possible 2008 White House contenders — Kerry, who lost to Bush in 2004; Hillary Clinton of New York; Evan Bayh of Indiana; Russ Feingold of Wisconsin; and Joe Biden of Delaware."
