Progressive state Senator Mallory McMorrow has made it clear she’s not supporting Chuck Schumer and attacked “the establishment” deciding candidates.
Bernie Sanders-backed Abdul El-Sayed refuses to support him.
But Haley Stevens is remaining loyal to the Senate Democrats’ leader from New York.
That’s a problem for national Democrats hoping to cool down their heated Senate primary in Michigan as Schumer still faces heat from the base.
Earlier this year, Stevens praised Schumer on national TV as a “great leader” after the Democrat Party’s left-wing revolted against him.
Now, according to new reporting from CNN, Schumer is rewarding Stevens’ loyalty by touting her as Democrats’ best option in their messy, four-way primary battle for Michigan’s open Senate seat.
Democrats are in disarray in Michigan and loyalty to Schumer is dividing them further.
“Chuck Schumer and the DC swamp are on a collision course with the progressive wing of the Democrat Party in Michigan, and loyalty to Schumer is proving to be a litmus test that will make this already ugly primary even nastier,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
