North Carolina Democrats will hold a press conference today falsely claiming President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts law will raise taxes on North Carolina families and give “tax breaks” to billionaires.
“If it was up to Democrats, North Carolina families would have been hit with the largest middle-class tax hike in history. But that’s not going to happen thanks to President Trump and Republicans in Congress,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “The Working Families Tax Cuts law is the most pro-family legislation in history and protects hundreds of thousands of North Carolina jobs, provides no taxes on tips, no taxes on over time, and no taxes on Social Security.”
Let’s set the record straight.
The Working Families Tax Cuts law delivers the largest middle-class tax cut in history. This is the most pro-family and pro-worker legislation in history and delivers:
- Upwards of $10k in more take-home pay for working North Carolinians.
- Higher wages.
- No taxes on tips and over time.
- No taxes on Social Security.
- Support for small businesses and will protect about 206,000 full-time jobs in North Carolina.
- Historic investments in rural healthcare.
Roy Cooper repeatedly raised taxes on hard-working families and opposes President Trump’s efforts to cut taxes on tips and over time. Under Cooper’s failed leadership:
- The median home price in North Carolina increased by nearly $230,000.
- Average rent in North Carolina increased by over $900.
- The average North Carolina household spent over $31,000 more.
- Families spent over $3,500 more on food per year.
- Families spent over $4,400 more on energy per year.
- Families spent over $9,700 more on transportation per year.
Meanwhile, North Carolina Democrats who oppose the Working Families Tax Cuts law are supporting the largest middle-class tax hike in history.
