WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) voted to shut down the federal government, delay paychecks to military service members, and risk veterans’ healthcare. Warner and Senate Democrats’ partisan bill would have saddled taxpayers with hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending, eliminated the $50 billion rural hospital fund provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts, increased waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid, and forced taxpayers to fund benefits for illegal immigrants.
“Mark Warner just voted against Republicans’ clean government funding bill in an effort to shut down the government,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “Virginia voters will remember that when it mattered most, Warner put politics over veterans’ healthcare, essential government services, and paychecks for our service members and federal government employees.”
