North Carolina has been undergoing a major electoral shift. Now Republicans are on track to surpass Democrats in registered voters for the first time in the state’s history and trust in Republicans on top issues like crime and immigration have this battleground state primed for a blockbuster race.
According to a new report, Republicans have passed 2.3 million voter registrations in North Carolina for the first time in history. Democrats’ registration advantage has shrunk to only 11,090 – less than .15% of those registered. Republicans have never outnumbered Democrats in the Tar Heel State, but we’re closer than ever.
Meanwhile, as Roy Cooper continues to face criticism for his soft-on-crime policies that led to the brutal murder of a young woman on the Charlotte light rail, it’s no surprise new polling shows Americans trust Republicans over Democrats on key issues, including crime. According to CNN’s Harry Enten, Americans trust Republicans over Democrats on:
- Crime (+22 points)
- Immigration (+13 points)
- Economy (+7 points)
“Democrats like Roy Cooper have spent decades supporting soft-on-crime policies that get people killed, sanctuary cities that make North Carolina less safe, and higher taxes that take more money from hard-working families,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “Voters are fed up with Cooper’s 37 years of Democrat failures and the result is a redder North Carolina than he has ever faced.”
