WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) already voted in favor of Republicans’ clean government funding bill in the House of Representatives, and would have supported it today in the U.S. Senate

Hinson told reporters that Democrats are unrealistic and praised President Trump for rejecting their outrageous demands that include $1.5 trillion in new spendingfunding free healthcare for illegal aliens, and cutting $50 billion in funding for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts.

“Ashley Hinson has made it clear that she will always stand with President Trump,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “Hinson voted to keep our government open, pay our service members, ensure our farmers have the resources they need, and secure veterans’ benefits. Meanwhile, Iowa Democrats are all willing to shut down the government and halt essential services in order to give illegal aliens free healthcare.”

Iowa’s Democrats support Chuck Schumer’s ridiculous shutdown:

  • Ashley Hinson voted in favor of the Continuing Resolution in the House of Representatives.
  • In September 2025, Nathan Sage said that he is “not a big advocate” for shutting down the government but wants Senate Democrats to shut down the government to “help people.”
  • Zach Wahls said Senate Democratic leadership should be “using every tool in the toolbox” in fighting Republicans. He declined to say whether or not he would keep the government open.
  • In 2013, Zach Wahls tweeted that a government shutdown is an “upside” for Democrats because “the public blames GOP, holds them responsible.”

Schumer’s Shutdown would:

Democrats are demanding $1.5 trillion in spending increases to end the shutdown and:

  • Cut $50 billion in rural healthcare funding
  • Restore Biden-era free healthcare for illegal aliens
  • Expand taxpayer-funded Medicaid to unemployed, able-bodied individuals without dependents under 14 years old
  • Eliminate Republican-passed fraud protections for taxpayer benefits like Medicaid and SNAP
