WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) voted in favor of Republicans’ clean government funding bill today, standing with President Trump and fighting for Texans. Senate Democrats pushed for outrageous demands that include $1.5 trillion in new spending, funding free healthcare for illegal aliens, and cutting $50 billion for rural hospitals provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts.
“John Cornyn is standing with President Trump to keep our government open, pay our service members, ensure farmers and ranchers have the resources they need, and secure critical veterans’ benefits,” said NRSC Communications Director Joanna Rodriguez. “Meanwhile, Jasmine Crockett, Colin Allred, and James Talarico are all willing to shut down the government just so the Democrat Party can fight to give illegal aliens free healthcare.”
Texas Democrats support Chuck Schumer’s ridiculous shutdown:
- John Cornyn voted in favor of the Continuing Resolution.
- Jasmine Crockett voted against the Continuing Resolution in the House of Representatives.
- On September 22, 2025, Colin Allred said that Democrats in Washington “have leverage” and “they need to use it.”
- James Talarico joined MSNBC on September 9, 2025, and when asked about a shutdown said, “all options need to be on the table,” and that Democrats need to use all the tools in their toolbox.
Chuck Schumer and Texas Democrats’ shutdown would:
- Leave military families without pay.
- Put law enforcement lives on the line.
- Jeopardize flood insurance for millions of Americans during hurricane season.
- Threaten vital healthcare and housing programs for veterans.
- Allow funding for a critical Medicare patients’ treatment program to expire.
- Hurt farmers and ranchers who need certainty to produce our food.
- Drive up food prices for America’s most needy families.
Democrats are demanding $1.5 trillion in spending increases to end the shutdown and:
- Cut $50 billion in rural healthcare funding.
- Restore Biden-era free healthcare for illegal aliens.
- Expand taxpayer-funded Medicaid to unemployed, able-bodied individuals without dependents under 14 years old.
- Eliminate Republican-passed fraud protections for taxpayer benefits like Medicaid and SNAP.
