Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) delivered increased funding for the Essential Air Service (EAS) program and is working with the Trump Administration to prevent the critical federal program from lapsing due to Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats shutting down the government. Thanks to the Trump Administration and Sullivan, funding for EAS has been extended to prevent an October lapse. 65 communities across Alaska rely on EAS for transportation and essential items, but Schumer’s Shutdown is once again causing the program’s funding to run out in early November. Senate Democrats are also blocking $4.5 million in funds secured by Sullivan for Alaska’s rural radio and TV stations to help keep them operating.
“While Dan Sullivan and President Trump put Alaskans first, Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats put Alaskans last,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “Senate Democrats should be ashamed for making Alaskans pay the price of their reckless government shutdown all because they want to appease their radical-left base and give free healthcare to illegal aliens.”
Dan Sullivan is fighting to open the federal government. But Schumer’s Shutdown is already hurting Alaska:
Alaska’s tourism industry is suffering.
Delayed stock assessments have created uncertainty for the fishermen and coastal communities that rely on them for the upcoming 2026 season.
Over 66,000 Alaskans are at risk of not receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to help keep their families fed.
