WASHINGTON, D.C. — Socialist Zohran Mamdani is not just winning in New York City, but has become the blueprint for radical Democrats in messy primaries across the nation. In Iowa, Zach Wahls has embraced Mamdani’s far-left agenda to differentiate himself and take the lead in Iowa Democrats’ messy six-way primary.
“Zach Wahls has fully adopted Mamdani’s radical agenda and is carrying his torch in a desperate attempt to win Democrats’ messy Senate primary in Iowa,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “Democrats have anointed Mamdani as their new leader and voters in battleground states like Iowa will reject the radical, copy-cat Mamdanis like Wahls in 2026.”
Zach Wahls is carrying Mamdani’s torch in Iowa:
- Wahls supports socialized childcare.
- Wahls supports free community college.
- Wahls supports Medicare for All.
- In March 2021, Wahls voted against a bill that would deny state funds to cities and counties that decrease funding for law enforcement.
- Wahls is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association, a church that supports defunding the police, abolishing the police, and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
- Wahls seemingly supports transgender youth using the bathroom of their choice, saying “I’m with the kids.”
- Wahls supported transgenders joining the Boy Scouts of America.
- Wahls supports biological men competing in women’s sports and called the law keeping men out of women’s sports “appalling.” Wahls voted against the bill.
- Wahls supports gender-mutilation surgeries for minors and said that there “is blood on the hands of Iowa Republicans” who supported the ban. Wahls voted against the bill.
- Wahls implied that Israel was committing a genocide in Gaza.
