Sherrod Brown is expected to meet with Ohio farmers today. Here’s ten things you need to know about Sherrod Brown’s long record of voting against Ohio’s family farms:

  1. Brown supported Joe Biden’s LNG export pause, hurting Ohio landowners and farmers who heavily rely on leasing land to natural gas companies.
  2. Brown voted for a natural gas tax that would raise costs for farmers and consumers.
  3. Brown voted for a wide-ranging energy tax in 1993 that would increase costs for farmers by $1,600 a year — roughly $3,625 today adjusted for inflation.
  4. Brown supports the Green New Deal which would increase costs for farmers and consumers, and force farmers to use unreliable energy sources.
  5. Brown voted to prohibit federal funds from being used to install natural gas utilities in building projects, which is critical for transportation, drying grains, fertilizers and more
  6. Brown supported Joe Biden’s WOTUS rule which would increase costs for small farmers and put farmers in costly litigation.
  7. Brown voted to exclude white farmers from federal loan assistance programs — more than 99% of farmers in Ohio.
  8. Brown voted to allow Chinese agriculture companies to receive taxpayer-funded IRA subsidies
  9. Brown voted to eliminate more than $30 billion in direct subsidy payments to farmers.
  10. Brown voted against allowing the Department of Agriculture from using COVID-19 funds to make payments to farmers based on crop yields lost due to natural disaster.

“Sherrod Brown has a long record of supporting radical Green New Deal policies, reckless government spending, and taxes that increase costs for farmers. Brown votes with his liberal buddies in D.C., and never in the interest of Ohio’s family farms.” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia
