Washington, D.C. – On the campaign trail, Democrats preached about “following the science.” But now – when the science is in front of them in big, bold letters – Democrats are pretending not to notice. President Joe Biden and Senate Democrats are cowering to their bosses at the teachers unions who are doing everything to keep schools closed and kids outside of the classroom.

Even worse, they’re using America’s students as political leverage to get more big government spending – even though more than $60 billion of money appropriated to help schools reopen has yet to be spent. And even though only 7% of the money in the Democrats’ COVID relief bill to help reopen schools is for 2021.

Teachers unions are fighting against efforts to reopen schools, including in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where President Biden is heading today. Even as new CDC guidelines would enable Milwaukee schools to reopen, Milwaukee-area teachers unions insist it is not safe. Will Joe Biden and Wisconsin Democrats continue to side with their union bosses over the well-being of Wisconsin students?

Statement from NRSC Chairman Rick Scott: “The science has been clear about reopening our nation’s schools: It’s safe, and it’s what is needed for the well-being of students in Wisconsin and across the country. Yet, Joe Biden and Wisconsin Democrats are blindly following the teachers unions that are ignoring science in a misguided effort to keep schools closed because they are afraid of losing campaign contributions. Wisconsinites are lucky to have Senator Ron Johnson fighting for them in the Senate. Unlike Joe Biden and the Democrats, Senator Johnson is unafraid to stand up to the teachers unions and liberals who are keeping schools closed and using Wisconsin students as political leverage to get more government spending.”
