Days before the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, Abdul El-Sayed is headlining a panel with two others who have promoted conspiracy theories about the attacks, one of which is Hasan Piker’s uncle.

As reported by the Washington Free Beacon

El-Sayed is headlining the Islamic Society of North America’s annual convention in Detroit on Saturday. There, El-Sayed will speak on a panel to examine a “turmoiled America” alongside left-wing pundit Cenk Uygur and Zaid Shakir, an outspoken New Jersey-based cleric, according to a convention itinerary...

“I no longer believe [sic] official 9/11 story,” Uygur declared in a social media rant in February. Uygur, who hosts the Young Turks YouTube show, is now pushing debunked claims about Israeli involvement in the attacks, including the “dancing Israelis” myth, an antisemitic conspiracy theory that posits that five Israeli spies filmed and celebrated the terrorist attack. “I didn’t know we arrested Israeli spies who were here to ‘document the event,'” wrote Uygur, who is the uncle of Hasan Piker, a close El-Sayed ally who has said that “America deserved 9/11.”

Shakir has similarly called for an “examination” of what he described as “glaring weaknesses and inconsistencies” in the official 9/11 narrative. He has argued that the U.S. government used the attacks to “launch a war on Islam,” and he directed followers to the writings of David Ray Griffin, a leading 9/11 conspiracy theorist who has argued that the United States orchestrated the attacks.

“Abdul El-Sayed’s inability to distance himself from Hasan Piker, who believes that ‘America deserved 9/11’, and now cozying up to his uncle and other 9/11 conspiracy theorists days before the 25th anniversary of the attacks is not only disrespectful, but disqualifying for the United States Senate,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell.

Abdul El-Sayed has come under fire for repeatedly making light of the 9/11 attacks:

  • Still refusing to condemn Hasan Piker for saying that “America deserved 9/11” after campaigning with him on multiple occasions and saying, “there are a lot of things he says that I deeply agree with.”
  • Deleting at least 11 tweets criticizing the U.S. reaction to 9/11 and comparing it to COVID-19, including posting on the 20th anniversary: “Today, I mourn the 3K lives, 6K injuries, & infrastructural devastation in NYC, perpetuated ignorantly in the name of my faith. Tomorrow, I’ll mourn ~1M lives, millions of injuries, & infrastructural devastation in 3 countries, perpetuated ignorantly in the name of my country.”
  • Penned an op-ed arguing the Department of Homeland Security should be focusing on white supremacists.
