Roy Cooper’s fellow Democrats just opposed Republican-led legislation to protect North Carolinians from higher energy costs. This is the second time Senate Democrats have blocked the legislation.
Today’s vote by his Party shows Cooper’s “Make Stuff Cost Less” agenda is just another phony promise. He says data centers must “pay the full cost of all the power they use and prevent costs from being passed on to consumers,” but party loyalty comes first.
“After 40 years in elected office and leading a data center boom in North Carolina, Roy Cooper is flip-flopping to try and hide his real record of jacking up costs while enriching himself. Cooper made stuff cost more as Governor, and he would make stuff cost more if elected to the U.S. Senate,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia.
Michael Whatley and Senate Republicans are fighting to lower costs for North Carolinians. The bipartisan legislation Republicans supported today ensures that:
- North Carolinians are protected from higher utility bills.
- Companies pay their own way while building the AI infrastructure America needs.
- Companies provide the power they consume and safeguard local water and natural resources.
- America has the superiority we need to compete with China without passing the costs onto families.
Roy Cooper is a liar and a hypocrite, proving his ‘Make Stuff Cost Less’ agenda is just empty promises.
- As Governor, Cooper showered data centers with tax breaks and oversaw a “15x jump in data center construction.” Now Cooper is flip-flopping to try and hide his real record of jacking up costs.
- Cooper’s data center boom contributes to the higher energy costs that Cooper is responsible for and now criticizes.
- Cooper’s own appointees green-lit Duke Energy rate hikes that are still hurting North Carolinians.
- Under Cooper, utility bills rose faster in North Carolina than any other state in the southeast.
