Last week Chuck Schumer, in his infinite wisdom, appointed accused felon Bob Menendez to the tax relief conference committee. The committee will be meeting today at 2:00pm and so far, we haven’t heard a peep of dissent from their fellow Senate Democrats.
Menendez, who is still facing several felony counts, including bribery, fraud, conspiracy and other corruption charges, will be one of seven Democratic Senators tasked with negotiating the final tax bill in the coming days. Considering that federal prosecutors have alleged that Menendez accepted bribes in exchange for lobbying on a wealthy benefactor’s behalf, Senate Democrats must answer whether they are worried about whose interests Menendez will be representing in these negotiations. With Menendez assuming such a prominent role, where he will have a say in finalizing a bill that will affect the finances of millions, do Chuck Schumer and company know who has been lobbying the disgraced senator and whose interests he’ll really be looking out for?
“Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats have lost all credibility on taxes by naming alleged felon Bob Menendez to the conference committee,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Menendez has been accused of doing the bidding of wealthy donors in exchange for lavish bribes, but Senate Democrats have given the fox the keys to the chicken coop, with a seat at the table on the tax bill.”
