Joe Manchin is starting to sound like an insecure teenager, desperate to fit in with his fellow West Virginians who strongly support President Trump, even though it is painfully obvious that he just doesn’t belong.
Washington Joe has started to make a habit out of name dropping President Trump in the opening line of his press releases, before explaining that he’s actually siding with Senate liberals like Elizabeth Warren and Chuck Schumer, and opposing the President’s agenda. Last week, Manchin released a statement that began “I agree with President Trump,” and then explains that Manchin wants to keep Obamacare in place. And today, in a statement reiterating his stance against President Trump and Republicans’ effort to repeal Obamacare, Washington Joe strangely cites President Trump in his reasoning for wanting to keep Barack Obama’s failed health care law in place. Washington Joe is going to have to do a lot better than that if his goal is to fool West Virginians.
“Washington Joe’s increasingly desperate attempts to tie himself to President Trump, even though he voted for Hillary Clinton, are becoming sad,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Washington Joe was one of just 26% of West Virginia voters who chose Hillary over President Trump, and no amount of name dropping will change that.”
