Washington Joe Manchin has made lots of influential friends over the years, but none as close as two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Washington Joe has stuck by Hillary through thick and thin, even as West Virginians soundly rejected her.
- Washington Joe was one of Hillary’s earliest endorsers in Congress, announcing his support all the way back in April of 2015.
- Most Americans quickly saw through Hillary’s deceit and dishonest rhetoric, but Washington Joe defended her, calling her “very trustworthy.”
- After Hillary’s infamous promise to “put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business,” Washington Joe had her back, appearing with her and saying that he didn’t think the comment came “from her heart.” Even West Virginia Democrats didn’t seem to agree, handing Hillary a 15-point defeat in their primary.
- And last November, Washington Joe was one of just 26.4% of voters in West Virginia who supported Hillary in her 42-point loss to President Trump
“It only makes sense that Washington Joe has stuck by the ultimate Washington insider, Hillary Clinton,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “The fact that Washington Joe stood with Hillary, even after her promise to devastate the coal industry, tells West Virginians all they need to know about his misplaced priorities.”
