Privileged Patrick Murphy – the subject of seven different ethics complaints, and Hillary Clinton have a new twist: convincing voters they’re not under FBI investigation.

As The Hill reports, Privileged Patrick insists that he didn’t know about the FBI’s investigation into the practices of his domestic violence offender pal – the second illegal straw donor scheme tied to Murphy in the past week, until its original column broke the news on Wednesday.

The spike in Murphy’s legal fees, however, suggest otherwise:
- Miami Herald: "Over the summer — after the super PAC’s complaint was filed — Murphy’s campaign, at one point, averaged $1,288 in legal expenses day over a six-week period."

- Miami Herald, 8/23/16: "Murphy reported spending $52,800 on legal services between July 1 and Aug. 10 — almost double the $27,200 he spent on legal fees for the entire second quarter (the three months between April and June) and roughly half of what he’s spent on legal fees in the past 13 months altogether. Murphy spokesman Joshua Karp declined to say what exactly Murphy’s legal fees were going toward. ‘It’s normal for campaigns to pay lawyers to make sure we’re always following the law, and the larger the campaign, the more moving pieces there are,’ Karp said in a statement to the Herald/Times…In June, the Senate Leadership Fund alleged Murphy was involved with a ‘straw donor scheme’ because of similar donations that went to both him and former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, himself a U.S. Senate candidate six years ago. When asked if Murphy’s legal expenses were related to defending against such FEC complaints, Karp deflected…"
Murphy is either lying about when he became aware of the FBI investigation into the illegal straw donor scheme he benefited from or he is hiding yet another scandal that requires an exorbitant amount of legal expenses.
