Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Oregon Democrat Senator Ron Wyden blocked bipartisan legislation led by Senator Marco Rubio, that already passed the House, aimed at combatting China’s genocide against Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang and holding the Communist regime accountable.

Who else is against this bill? Nike, which has lobbied strongly against the bill’s passage. Nike, of course, is a top donor of Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, who is up for re-election in 2022. Coincidence? We think not.

Statement from NRSC Spokeswoman Lizzie Litzow: “Ron Wyden chose to block a bipartisan, commonsense human rights bill that would combat China’s genocide of Uyghur Muslims and prevent U.S. companies from benefiting from slave labor. It’s, of course, simply a coincidence that Wyden’s biggest donor, Nike, has lobbied strongly against passage of this bill. Like many U.S. companies, Ron Wyden decided to put money ahead of human rights. Oregonians and Americans deserve better.”
