Washington, D.C. – During his disastrous State of the Union speech, Joe Biden said some things that don’t align with Senate Democrats’ actions or the actions of his administration.

  • First, Biden said he “gets it” on inflation. That’s not what he was saying last year. He continually assured Americans that inflation was only temporary. And while Biden was misleading the country on inflation, Senate Democrats were busy voting for a liberal spending spree disguised as “COVID relief” that experts warned would make inflation worse.

  • Second, Joe Biden said he won’t raise taxes on Americans making less than $400,000. That’s simply not true. Joe Biden and Senate Democrats’ build back broke agenda would raise taxes on 30% of middle-class families. It would even give millionaires in states like New York and California a tax cut.

  • Third, Biden said he wants to reopen schools. But Senate Democrats have spent the past year continually blocking children from returning to school. They voted to keep schools closed not once, but TWICE in the last year.

  • Lastly, Biden said the border needs to be secured. If Biden is actually serious about fixing the border crisis he created (he’s not), he should tell Senate Democrats to stop voting against common-sense border security measures.

Statement from NRSC Spokesman Jonathan Turcotte: “Last night, Joe Biden did his best Mark Kelly impression; telling Americans one thing but doing the opposite. Over the past year, Joe Biden and Senate Democrats have fought to keep schools closed and keep the border open. They misled Americans on so-called ‘temporary’ inflation while jamming through trillions in spending that made inflation worse. Democrats are the party of record inflation, tax hikes, closed schools, and open borders. No phony speech will ever change that.”
