One Democrat said the Democrats’ message needs to be focused solely on stopping President Donald Trump:

“We need to be talking about impeachment constantly,” said Scott Dworkin, co-founder of the recently formed Democratic Coalition Against Trump. He warned on Twitter, “If you’re an elected Dem & you’re not talking impeachment or 25th amendment then find a new party.”

However, other leaders say that’s a mistake but still don’t have a messaging alternative:

“Democrats would make a mistake if we thought pounding Trump and not having an authentic message of our own is a winning strategy,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper. “The message of Democrats has to be about issues that matter to people at their kitchen table.”

It isn’t just party leaders that question what the Democrats stand for. Over half of Americans say the Democratic Party doesn’t stand for anything.

As Democrats bicker over the amount of anti-Trump messaging, ten Senate Democrats are from states that President Trump carried – five of those states President Trump won by double-digits.

Democrat operative James Carville pointed out this same fact when he said winning the Senate “is very, very difficult.”

“The problem in the Senate is we have a large number of seats we have to hold in states that Donald Trump carried. Indiana, Missouri, you know, places like that we have to hold seats,” he continued.

Democrats are struggling to find a message, but even if they do finally find a message that works, the odds of a Democrat-controlled Senate are still slim.
