Today is February 2, or better known as Groundhog Day! Every year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, thousands gather to watch if the groundhog sees his shadow, determining how long this year’s winter will last.

The holiday gained more notoriety after the 1993 hit movie, Groundhog Day, about a man who experiences the same day over and over again. Must ring true for Senate Democrats up for reelection as they continue to run for office over and over again. These career politicians have gotten pretty used to spending their lives on the taxpayer’s dime and delivering nothing for their states.

Pennsylvania

Being from the home state of Groundhog Day must have really rubbed off on Sen. Casey, seeing as he’s been a politician since 1997!

He’s been in Washington, DC since 2006 and was even recruited by now-Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. With each run for office, the only thing that changes is that Sen. Casey moves  further and further to the left to fit in with his fellow Washington colleagues like Sen. Warren and Sen. Sanders.

Michigan

Sen. Stabenow hasn’t always been a U.S. Senator, but she has been a politician for most of her life! Sen. Stabenow has been running for office since 1975. That goes as far back as the Ford Administration! She has been running for 42 years, and 22 of those years have been in Washington, DC, meaning more than half of her career has been spent with Washington Democrat bosses rather than Michiganders.

You’d think that spending so much time in office would mean she would have gotten a lot done for Michigan. Yet, during her 15th and 16th year in the US Senate – the time you should be a seasoned veteran in your field, Sen. Stabenow was not able to pass one single bill. It’s one of the many reasons she was ranked the 6th most ineffective Senator in 2017.

Ohio

When it comes to career politicians, Sen. Brown is the king! He’s been running for political office since 1974 and has been in Washington, DC for over 25 years.

Here’s a little reminder of how long the king of career politicians has been in Washington delivering nothing for Ohioans:

Sen. Brown started his political career immediately after graduating from his East Coast Ivy school. His whole career has been repeating the same campaign during Election years, only to accomplish little to nothing for Ohio.

West Virginia

Running for office is basically Groundhog Day for Sen. Manchin, too, considering he began his political career at the mere age of 35! Since 1982, Sen. Manchin has been running for office and plotting his political rise. We think he’s become quite comfortable with the political life, taking orders from fellow Washington liberals and receiving the number 8 spot in 2017 as the least effective Senator.

Missouri

Sen. McCaskill is just like her Senate Democrat colleagues who’ve also enjoyed building a career off running for office in perpetuity. Sen. McCaskill first ran for the Missouri House of Representatives in 1982 and has since been moving up the ranks. Moving from office to office must have started to feel like Groundhog’s Day years ago for Claire!

Florida

Add Sen. Nelson to the list of do-nothing Senate Democrats. He’s been running for office since 1972, totaling over 45 years of seeking political office! And even though he’s been in the US Senate forever, a poll found only 49% of Floridians know who he is. Maybe if Sen. Nelson delivered for Floridians people would be a little more familiar with him.

Wisconsin

Sen. Baldwin is no stranger to the career politician life as she’s been in office since 1982. Her political career is the same age as Groundhog Day the movie! She’s spent almost 20 years Washington, DC moving further to the extreme left (and further from Wisconsinites) every day.

Montana

Sen. Tester shouldn’t be forgotten when it comes to career politicians. He’s been in political office for nearly 30 years and over 10 of those have been in Washington, DC. Running for office might seem like a career to Sen. Tester, but Montanans won’t stand for a Senator that’s gone Washington!

These career politicians have been in office too long. Help us defeat them in November!
