Since being sworn in to the U.S. Senate in January, Senator Martha McSally has been busy, and already has become a leader on the issues that matter most to the people of Arizona.

Two of those issues include strengthening the military and fixing our broken immigration system. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a former Colonel in the Air Force, Sen. McSally is an expert on the issues that our military faces and is passionate about finding real solutions. Just recently, the Senate Armed Services Committee marked up this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The final version of the NDAA that is headed to a floor vote soon includes 17 provisions authored by Senator McSally, an impressive feat for any member of Congress, but particularly a freshman senator.

“We need to take a hard look at what’s not working, and figure out what is working.”

Sen. McSally has also become a leader in the fight to end sexual assault in the military. She has introduced a new bill that will fund federal research to investigate what actually works to prevent sexual assault and to determine the best ways to support survivors who are still serving. As someone who understands this system better than anyone else in Congress, Sen. McSally is not afraid to have the tough conversations that will ultimately make our great military even better.

Tackling the humanitarian crisis on our Southern border, Sen. McSally is working hard to fix problems in our broken immigration system. She recognizes that loopholes in our legal system have incentivized many immigrants to migrate from Central America into the United States. Immigrants are targeted by human traffickers and drug cartels along the way and then when they reach our border, they are met with a backlogged system and overcrowded facilities. Our laws are not working in their current form, but Sen. McSally is dedicated to fixing them in order to make Arizona more safe and secure.

“[Our system] is now further incentivizing the traffickers and the cartels”

Sen. McSally has taken on a leadership role on the issues Arizonans care about most, and is already making a difference.

Sen. McSally is always fighting for Arizona.
