In 2016 as the American people had begun choosing our next president, Democrats tried to ram a Supreme Court nominee through the Senate before the American people had even gotten a chance to come to a decision. But the American people deserved to decide the direction of the Supreme Court – not a lame duck president.

In November, America spoke loud and clear, electing President Donald Trump and Republican Majorities in the House and Senate. Now, Senate Democrats are making one last play to steal the seat right out from under the American people. Chuck Schumer has already reversed from his #WeNeedNine stance, saying he’d "absolutely" hold the SCOTUS seat open.

Before a nominee was even announced, Schumer pledged to "fight tooth and nail" against President Trump’s nominee. Instead of listening to American voters, Schumer and Senate Democrats have chosen to play politics with the Supreme Court. One Democrat said:

“This is a stolen seat. This is the first time a Senate majority has stolen a seat,” Merkley said in an interview. “We will use every lever in our power to stop this.”

This seat is not stolen. This seat belongs to the American people it serves and always has. If anyone is trying to steal this seat, it’s the Senate Democrats from Americans across the country.

We hope Senate Democrats stop playing political games with the people’s Supreme Court seat and obey the wishes of Americans.
