Abandoning the campaign finance principles upon which he used to pride himself is starting to make more and more sense. Senator Russ Feingold, after all, is going to need all the money he can get as he attempts to rewrite his "bad bet on intelligence" and his dangerously weak record on national security.
The Associated Press reports that Senator Feingold launched a new 30 second commercial – 18 seconds of which actually tout his so-called national security plan.
Unfortunately for Senator Feingold, 18 seconds of his campaign commercial cannot change eighteen years of his national security failures.
From his lone vote against intelligence surveillance of terrorists following 9/11 to his vote against creating the Department of Homeland Security, Senator Feingold has his work cut out for him as he runs away from his failures. Masking his record is going to take far more than 18 seconds in an ad and a mandate requiring supporters to downplay his two decades in Washington, DC.
Russ for Wisconsin/California got it exactly right by noting that when it comes to national security, there is a "better way" – the namesake of their new TV spot. That better way, however, is the strong leadership championed by Ron Johnson as he works tirelessly as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee to protect Wisconsinites.
