Senator Russ Feingold’s ill-timed fundraiser in Washington, DC next week follows the release of his April quarterly campaign finance report.

Given his decision to completely abandon the values upon which he used to pride himself, it wasn’t a matter of if Senator Feingold’s latest campaign finance report would expose his hypocrisy – it was a matter of how badly it would expose his hypocrisy.

The results are in; Senator Feingold only raised 30% of his itemized individual contributions from Wisconsin. Core Feingold constituencies like California academics, Hollywood entertainers, and Washington lobbyists have replaced Wisconsinites.

Senator Feingold should have avoided raising taxes on Wisconsinites during his 18 years in Washington as devoutly as he avoids collecting political donations from them as a retread candidate.

Should Senator Feingold get some down time while criss-crossing the country to fill his campaign coffers with broken promises, we recommend watching this helpful tutorial. He’s going to need it.

FLIP:

  • "I don’t think there’s anything wrong with occasional out-of-state campaign contributions. But you better darn well make sure that a majority of what you receive is from the people whom you would represent." (Russ Feingold, Democratic Senate Primary Debate, 8/28/92)

  • “And it’s not self-serving because I’m promising it for the future. I’m saying that’s a pledge I’m going to keep. I’m not going to get in there and go, ‘OK, where are the PACs and where are the out-of-state contributions?’ I’m making a pledge for the future.” (Russ Feingold, Democratic Senate Primary Debate, 8/28/92)

  • "I have committed to raising a majority of my contributions from Wisconsin citizens…That’s something I’ve done to make sure I don’t get consumed by it." (Dunstan McNichol, “Day-One Fundraiser ‘Part Of What Goes On Here,’ Feingold Says,” States News Service, 11/10/92)
