If you are watching – and we know you are – it’s clear Senate Democrats are more concerned with grandstanding than substantively questioning Judge Brett Kavanaugh at his Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing this morning. Who is watching this hearing and cringing? You got it! Red state Dems who are being put in a horribly uncomfortable spot just 63 days before the midterm election.
Remember, before the hearing began, half of the ten Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee had already announced their opposition to Judge Kavanaugh. And Chuck Schumer directed red state Dems to “keep your powder dry” and stay neutral as long as you can, and red state Dems have followed suit.
But as Democrats continue to pander to their “resistance” base, red state Democrats will pay the price for their colleagues’ decisions to lurch the Democratic Party further to the left. With their vote on Judge Kavanaugh, red state Democrats will either enrage their radical base or alienate their constituents who want to see President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee confirmed.
Seeing how this hearing has started, Democrats are clearly more concerned with their 2020 ambitions than keeping their 2018 colleagues up for reelection in Trump states.
