Senate Democrats are proving why they continue to lose colleagues every election cycle. National polling shows that President Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch has been very well received by voters and yet Senate Democrats promise to fight “tooth and nail” to stop this common sense choice.

· CNN: Gorsuch nomination meets with positive reception

“Americans’ first impressions of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch tilt positive, and a plurality say the Senate ought to vote to confirm President Donald Trump’s selection to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, according to a new CNN/ORC poll.”

· Huffington Post: POLL: Donald Trump’s SCOTUS Pick Draws A Positive Reaction

“Americans have a generally positive first impression of Neil Gorsuch, Donald Trump’s nominee to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia, a new HuffPost/YouGov poll finds.”

· Washington Examiner: Poll: Majority of Americans approve of Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination

“A SurveyMonkey Tracking poll showed 53 percent of Americans approve of Gorsuch’s nomination…”

· Rasmussen Reports: 86% See Gorsuch Confirmation As Likely

“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 51% of Likely U.S. Voters believe, based upon what they know at this time, that the U.S. Senate should confirm Gorsuch for the Supreme Court seat left vacant last year by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Only 29% disagree, while 20% are undecided.”

And across the country, Judge Gorsuch is being praised as a highly qualified pick for the Supreme Court, leaving Democrats up for election in 2018 with no cover for their reflexive opposition to his nomination.

· Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: For the high court: Why Dems should avoid a battle over Gorsuch

“…Judge Gorsuch is overwhelmingly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court.”

· The Detroit News: Editorial: Trump’s pick is masterful

“Gorsuch is a masterful pick. His resume and background are beyond challenge: Harvard-, Columbia- and Oxford-educated; clerked for two Supreme Court justices; praised for his temperament and reverence for the law; more than a decade of experience on the federal bench.”

· Boston Herald: Editorial: Confirm Gorsuch

“Any senator who votes to oppose the nomination of Neil M. Gorsuch to fill a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court will have done so motivated by blind partisanship — or revenge. There is simply no credible case to make that President Trump’s nominee is insufficiently qualified or unreasonably out of the judicial mainstream.”

· Worcester Telegram: Editorial: Gorsuch well qualified to take Scalia’s seat

“Judge Gorsuch is more than qualified in education, experience, judicial record and temperament.”

· Charleston Gazette-Mail: Daily Mail editorial: Neil Gorsuch a great pick for Supreme Court

“From the evidence so far, Neil Gorsuch has the qualities anyone considered for justice of the highest court should have: a strong understanding and respect for the nation’s founding document, the U.S. Constitution.”

· The Kansas City Star: Editorial: In Neil Gorsuch, Trump has selected a qualified and conservative jurist

“…President Donald Trump has selected a qualified and thoughtful jurist to fill the Supreme Court seat…”

· Richmond Times-Dispatch: Editorial: Colorado sets precedent for Gorsuch stampede

“Gorsuch’s personal qualities also have earned praise. His attitudes and approaches as an appellate judge seem to impress opponents of his judicial interpretations as well as supporters of them. An acting solicitor general for the Obama administration recommends his confirmation. His integrity is absolute; his disposition appropriate for the job.”

· Miami Herald: Don’t filibuster Supreme Court nominee

“Gorsuch has the perfect credentials for the position: he studied at prestigious Harvard and Columbia universities; he has clerked for two Supreme Court justices, and has been a federal judge for many years, plus he hails from the West Coast, unlike all the other justices. Trump made a fine selection.”

As Senate Democrats struggle to cope with their minority status and protect their vulnerable incumbents, they are coming under increasing pressure from the far left to oppose President Trump at all costs, placing new Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a precarious position.

· Associated Press: Democrats in a vise over Trump’s Supreme Court pick

“Voters from the liberal base apoplectic over Trump’s presidency are demanding opposition at any cost. But all-out war on a well-qualified nominee could alienate independent voters who will be crucial in next year’s midterm elections, when Senate Democrats are defending a daunting 23 seats, including 10 in states Trump won.”

· Washington Post: Schumer’s dilemma: Satisfying the base while protecting his minority

“The situation for Democrats is so intense and personal that Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) were taunted by protesters during a rally on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court on Jan. 30. Back in New York — where Schumer won reelection last fall with 70 percent of the vote — protesters recently rallied near his Brooklyn home, chanting curse words that rhyme with his nickname, Chuck. All of it puts Schumer in a pretty tight squeeze trying to protect a diminished minority caucus, support the far left and at the same time temper expectations of what Democrats can do.”

· Washington Examiner: Supreme Court fight over Gorsuch puts Schumer in a bind

“With five vulnerable Democrats and eight more seats on the verge of being competitive in 2018, Schumer must find a way to satisfy the Democratic base by fighting the nomination without jeopardizing the re-election prospects of a big portion of his caucus who have to run for re-election in states that Trump won.”

“Voters recognize that Judge Neil Gorsuch is an extremely well qualified pick for the Supreme Court, and that Democrats’ opposition to him is purely political,” said NRSC Communications Director Katie Martin. “If Red State Democrats join with Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren, and the rest of the far left in their mindless opposition to Judge Gorsuch, they’ll find themselves looking for a new job in 2019.”
