Problems at the Tomah, Wisconsin VA Medical Center are back in the news again today as a new report shows that malfunctions at the facility compromised the supplies of veterans’ medications, risking “serious health problems,” and costing taxpayers as much as $60,000 in damages.

The report is a stark reminder of the problems our veterans face when seeking care, and an even worse reminder of how Senator Tammy Baldwin refused to take action to get veterans the care they deserve — even when she knew about other problems running rampant at the Tomah VA.

For those who’ve forgotten, Senator Baldwin ignored reports for months from the VA Inspector General and multiple warnings from whistleblowers about the facility’s widespread overprescription of opioids to veterans. Despite receiving multiple pleas for help and repeated warnings, Baldwin declined to take action until after a veteran tragically died of an overdose at the facility.

So much for putting veterans first…

“How long must our veterans continue to suffer at the Tomah VA before Tammy Baldwin will actually get up and do something about it?” asked NRSC Spokesman Calvin Moore. “Wisconsin veterans deserve a Senator who will actually fight for them, not another do-nothing career politician like Tammy Baldwin.”
