Washington, D.C. — It’s been 4 days since the North Carolina Democrat convention at which a number of Anti-Israel resolutions were considered as part of the updated party platform.
North Carolina Democrats’ U.S. Senate nominee has remained silent on all of them.
Of course, this is not the first time that Cheri Beasley has remained silent when allies have trashed the only democracy in the Middle East.
The nonpartisan North Carolina Jewish Clergy Association Steering Committee said the following:
“Given the troubling rise in direct acts of anti-semitism against many North Carolina synagogues, we consider these resolutions to be potentially dangerous.”
“Of the seven resolutions devoted to foreign affairs, three are focused on criticism of Israel. While some of our clergy are sympathetic to some of the claims embedded in the statements, on the main, these resolutions are not thoughtful nor balanced. In short, they contain one-sided representations of the complexities of the decades-long Arab-Israeli conflict.”
So why is Cheri Beasley, who is leading the Democrat ticket in 2022, not speaking up?
Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: “The U.S. Senate plays a special role in American foreign policy and defending our most important ally in the Middle East should not be controversial. It defies logic that Cheri Beasley would remain silent on these resolutions if she doesn’t support them. It’s an often-overused expression to call someone’s silence deafening, but in this case, the expression is truly appropriate. There should be no ambiguity where a U.S. Senator from North Carolina stands on supporting Israel.”
