WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) voted to shut down the federal government, delay paychecks to military service members, and risk veterans’ healthcare. Luján and Senate Democrats’ partisan bill would have saddled taxpayers with hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending, eliminated the $50 billion rural hospital fund provided by the Working Family Tax Cuts, increased waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicaid, and forced taxpayers to fund benefits for illegal immigrants.
“Ben Ray Luján just voted against Republicans’ clean government funding bill in an effort to shut down the government,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Samantha Cantrell. “New Mexico voters will remember that when it mattered most, Luján put politics over veterans’ healthcare, essential government services, and paychecks for our service members.”
