As early voting begins in Florida, Bill Nelson still hasn’t come out of hiding to explain his alarming warning that Russians “have already penetrated” some voter registration systems in the state.

Last Friday, Nelson finally put out a statement—around 11:00pm—that did not provide any evidence of his initial claim and offered zero details about the alleged infiltration.

And since then, Nelson has gone dark, holding no events during the Senate recess period and not giving any media interviews.

Either Bill Nelson somehow obtained classified information and chose to release it to the press, instead of state election officials… or he just made up a serious allegation that could erode confidence in the state’s voting system.

Bill Nelson can’t hide forever and Floridians deserve an explanation now.

“Bill Nelson’s behavior since claiming that Russians are already in some Florida voter registration systems has been completely irresponsible and reckless,” said Camille Gallo NRSC Spokesperson. “Now that early voting is underway in Florida, Bill Nelson needs to come out of hiding and give voters a full explanation about his serious claims.”
