With each passing day, Phil Bredesen is making it clearer he won’t support President Trump on the issues Tennesseans care about most.

In a recent television interview, Bredesen admitted his greatest disagreement with President Trump was on the topic of immigration.

Bredesen’s opposition to President Trump on immigration shouldn’t come as a surprise. Here’s a quick look at Phony Phil’s radical immigration positions:

  • Bredesen criticized President Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico as “political theater, not anything practical.” (Thomas Kaplan, “In Pro-Trump Tennessee, Democrats Count On A Familiar Face To Flip A Senate Seat,” The New York Times, 4/18/18)
  • Bredesen introduced legislation that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain “certificates for driving.” (Karin Miller, “Tenn. Considers Law Prohibiting Illegal Immigrants From Getting Driver’s Licenses,” The Associated Press, 2/6/04)
  • Bredesen has accepted $15,000 in contributions from radical Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Kamala Harris (D-CA), both of whom have advocated abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). (Federal Election Commission, Filed 7/25/18)
  • Bredesen was critical of legislation focused on boosting criminal fines for employers of illegal aliens who ‘knowingly’ or ‘recklessly’ employ them. (Andy Sher, “Advocates Push Work Rights – Immigration Rally Focuses On Proposed National Reforms,” Chattanooga Times Free Press, 3/30/06)
  • Bredesen previously said he did not view illegal immigration as a “Top 10” issue. (Tom Humphrey, “Former Gov. Bredesen Writing, Crusading, Promoting And Eyeing Another Career,” Knoxville News Sentinel, 11/9/12)

“Finally, Tennesseans got a straight answer out of Phony Phil Bredesen and now know they can’t trust him to crack down on illegal immigration,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “In a state President Trump won by 26 points, Bredesen’s insistence on standing with left-wing liberals like Chuck Schumer instead of Tennessee voters on a topic as important as illegal immigration will haunt him.”
