Phil Bredesen seems to have forgotten his out-of-step views on immigration. According to the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal, Bredesen suggested that a recent meeting with faith leaders will “help him in developing a position on immigration.”

But Bredesen’s immigration views are clear, and they aren’t what Tennesseans want from their elected leaders.

Here’s a quick look at Phony Phil’s radical immigration positions:

  • Bredesen criticized President Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico as “political theater, not anything practical.” (Thomas Kaplan, “In Pro-Trump Tennessee, Democrats Count On A Familiar Face To Flip A Senate Seat,” The New York Times, 4/18/18)
  • Bredesen introduced legislation that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain “certificates for driving.” (Karin Miller, “Tenn. Considers Law Prohibiting Illegal Immigrants From Getting Driver’s Licenses,” The Associated Press, 2/6/04)
  • Bredesen has accepted $15,000 in contributions from radical Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Kamala Harris (D-CA), both of whom have advocated abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). (Federal Election Commission, Filed 7/25/18)
  • Bredesen was critical of legislation focused on boosting criminal fines for employers of illegal aliens who ‘knowingly’ or ‘recklessly’ employ them. (Andy Sher, “Advocates Push Work Rights – Immigration Rally Focuses On Proposed National Reforms,” Chattanooga Times Free Press, 3/30/06)
  • Bredesen previously said he did not view illegal immigration as a “Top 10” issue. (Tom Humphrey, “Former Gov. Bredesen Writing, Crusading, Promoting And Eyeing Another Career,” Knoxville News Sentinel, 11/9/12)

“Phil Bredesen’s refusal to get tough on illegal immigration and support President Trump’s efforts to build a wall are a prime example of how out of touch he is with Tennessee voters,” said NRSC Spokesman Michael McAdams. “While Marsha Blackburn and President Trump are fighting to secure our nation’s borders, Phil Bredesen is busy accepting money from radicals trying to abolish ICE.”
